With more take-out containers and single use items being disposed of than ever before, Tofino's Public Works department has increased garbage collection by 30% to keep up with demands. Unfortunately, when waste isn’t disposed of properly, it makes its way into our oceans, streams and other waterways, and also attracts wildlife.
Thanks to our partners at WildSafeBC Pacific Rim and Surfrider Pacific Rim for working with residents, businesses and visitors to #loveyourbeachclean and #keepwildlifewild.
What visitors, residents and businesses can do:
- Use public garbage and recycling bins, and if they're full, please take your garbage and recycling home or back to your accommodation – don’t leave it for the birds or the bears.
- Pack out what you pack in - #leavenotrace.
- Lead your own #5minutebeachclean or join a #flashcleanfriday with Surfrider Pacific Rim.
- Make sure your personal and business garbage and recycling are bear-proof and secure. Ask WildsafeBC for tips or training for your business.
