SUMMARY:Tsunami Preparedness: Seeing the Science Workshop
DESCRIPTION:How could an earthquake or tsunami impact Tofino?\nAs part of this year’s expanded Tsunami Preparedness Week initiatives, the District of Tofino is hosting a workshop that brings together academic experts and researchers from around the world to share insights on coastal risk and emergency planning.\nThis session will present an evacuation model that shows how different earthquake and tsunami scenarios could affect Tofino and the surrounding areas, drawing on lessons learned from global tsunami events and data collected during last year’s High Ground Hike.\nParticipants will also have the chance to join a panel discussion and ask questions of researchers and experts.\nThis event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged, as space is limited. To reserve a spot, please contact Hilary O’Reilly, Emergency Program Coordinator, at horeilly@tofino.ca. Drop-ins are welcome on the day of the event if space is available.\n
