SUMMARY:2026 General Municipal Election – Candidate Information Session
DESCRIPTION:If you are considering running for Mayor or Council in the 2026 municipal election, you are invited to attend the upcoming Candidate Information Session on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 5–7 PM at the Tofino Community Hall.\nThe session will provide prospective candidates with practical information about serving in local government and help them better understand the responsibilities and commitments that come with elected office.\nTopics will include:\n\nThe role of Mayor and Council\nHow Council makes decisions\nThe relationship between Council and District staff\nThe difference between governance and municipal operations\nThe time commitment, workload and public expectations associated with elected office\nMunicipal finance and long-term planning\nEthical responsibilities, conflicts of interest and confidentiality\nCandidate eligibility, nominations and key election requirements\n\nRepresentatives from the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District will also attend to share information about the elections for the School District 70 Trustee and the Electoral Area “C” – Long Beach Director.\nThe session will include time for questions and discussion, allowing prospective candidates to consider what they may need to feel informed and prepared before deciding to run.\nProspective candidates are encouraged to attend and learn more about what it means to serve their community through elected office.\nFor more information about the 2026 local government election, visit www.tofino.ca/election\n
