Temporary Pay Parking Parking Spaces Proposed

At the upcoming Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, District staff will present the Traffic and Parking Regulation Amendment Bylaw No. 1091.10, 2024. This presentation will include a recommendation to Council to add 11 new temporary pay parking spaces.
If approved by Council, the parking spaces will be located at the former site of the Tuff City Bike Park, adjacent to the Tofino Community Hall. The bike park, which was at end of life, was removed during construction related to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The parking spaces will be specifically for oversized vehicles such as RVs, boat trailers, and large trucks. The addition of these parking spaces aims to compensate for the loss of parking for oversized vehicles on Fourth Street at the site of the new SD70 daycare.
The proposed rates for this parking lot will also be presented during the meeting. It is estimated that the addition of this parking lot will increase the District's parking revenue by approximately $5948 in 2024.
If approved by Council, it is anticipated that this parking lot will be available for use in early July after Robbins Parking has installed a pay parking meter.
The long-term use of this area will be reevaluated after the summer of 2024 in alignment with the development of the upcoming Recreation and Parks Master Plan, which is expected to be released in Spring 2025.
Residents may provide feedback by attending the Regular Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 04:30 PM, in person or via Zoom.
