Making a Payment

Payments made painless(ish)

Property Taxes and Utility Bills can be paid online, by telephone, through your financial institution, by mail, or at the Municipal Office.

Find your Property Folio Number or Account Number

Property folio numbers and utility account numbers are attached to the property and not the owner. Find your folio number on the top left side of your tax notice and your utility account number at the bottom of your utility bill.

Do you qualify for a Home Owner Grant?

Before you make your payment, make sure you apply for your Home Owner Grant if you qualify. Learn more about Home Owner Grants.

Ways to Pay

In-person

24-hr drop-off box

Drop your payment in an envelope in the mail slot at the entrance of the Municipal Office. You can drop off your payment 24 hours a day - but if you pay after midnight the due date, you may receive a late penalty charge.

Municipal Office

Bring your bill payment to the Municipal Office during regular office hours, before the due date.

By mail

Mail your self-addressed envelope with your cheque or money order payable to the Municipal Office. Make cheques payable to District of Tofino and include your folio number on the cheque. Post-dated cheques are accepted, but make sure the cheque is dated on or before the Property Tax due date.

Mailing address:
District of Tofino
PO Box 9
Tofino BC V0R 2Z0

We must receive your payment by or before the due date at our Office. If your mail is lost or delayed by the Post Office, and does not arrive by the due date, you may receive a penalty charge. The date of postmark or date of bank stamp are not accepted as payment date.

Through your financial institution

Online

Pay your taxes or utility bill through your bank's website. When you pay online, we suggest you pay 3 days before the due date.

  1. Set up The District of Tofino as the payee.
  2. Use your folio number as the account number. Make sure your folio number on your tax notice is the same as the account number set up with your bank.
  3. Check your account balance by July 3, to make sure the payment was successful.

Phone

Pay by phone through your bank's telephone banking service.

  1. Contact your bank's customer service line to set up telephone banking if you don't already have it.
  2. Use your folio number as the account number. Make sure your folio number on your tax notice is the same as the account number set up with your bank.
  3. Check your account balance by July 3, to make sure the payment was successful.

ATM

Pay through the ATM at your bank. Keep your receipt for your payment records.

Contact your financial institution directly if you require assistance or have questions about payment services.

Through Your Mortgage Company

You can pay your property tax through your mortgage payments. You are responsible for communicating with your mortgage company and managing this service to ensure the balance owing is paid by the due date to avoid late penalty charges.
