FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I register?
As of late 2018, Tofino Recreation programs have gone online through PerfectMind. You can register for programs from the comfort of your living room! Visit www.tofino.ca/recreation and sign up for an account today. Registration must be completed through PerfectMind or over the phone with Recreation staff.
Why should I register early?
Sometimes excellent courses with excellent instructors are cancelled if everyone waits until the last minute (No“Tofino time” please!). Register early to avoid disappointment for yourself and others.
Can I put my name on the list and pay later?
You cannot. To secure your spot in a program, payments must be received at the time of registration. The only exception to this is in the case of utilizing the Kids Access Fund. We cannot hold spots from phone, text or email inquiries without payment.
What's the cancellation policy?
NEW* COVID-19 CANCELLATION POLICY
At any time the District may cancel programs if health and safety of staff and participants is at risk due to COVID-19. Should the District cancel a program before it begins, all participants will be given full refunds. If the program is cancelled after a program begins, a pro-rated refund will be assessed. If your child is presenting with COVID-19 related symptoms, prior to the beginning of camp, they will not be permitted to attend. In this case, a full refund will be issued even within the one week cancellation policy. If your child becomes ill during the course of a program, they will be sent home and a pro-rated refund will be issued. Our complete COVID-19 Safety Policy document can be accessed here.
Oh no, the program is full! What can I do?
Some classes fill very quickly. If the program you want is full, our online system will ask if you wish to be added to the waitlist. You will be contacted if space becomes available or if additional classes are added.
My child is ALMOST of age to register for this program, can they register?
If the program cut off age is 7, your child must be 7 years of age at the time of the program to attend. This helps us ensure the content and delivery of the program is age appropriate.
My plans changed – can I get a refund?
Yes! We are happy to refund any cancellations that are made AT LEAST 1 WEEK in advance of the program start date (unless otherwise stated in the program guide). After this time we cannot guarantee a full refund. All cancellations will be charged a 5% administration fee. You may choose to leave the refunded amount as a credit on your account and apply it to future programs, or have the refund processed via cheque.
I can’t attend every day of the program, can you pro-rate the fee?
By registering and paying for a program, you are committing to attend the full duration of the program. Pro-rating is up to the individual instructor’s discretion.
Life is expensive and I can’t afford a program my child would really like to do. Is there any way they can still attend?
Yes! All kids should have access to Tofino Recreation programs. You will find more information about the Tofino Recreation Commission’s Kids Access Fund here. This fund is here to help subsidize recreation programs for kids in the communities of Clayoquot Sound. The Kids Access Fund supports children to participate in recreational activities and programs offered through the District of Tofino Recreation Department.
Funding amounts vary depending on the amount of funds available in the Kids Access Fund. Families are welcome to apply each season for support for children or youth’s program fees. The maximum amount of funding per child is capped at $500 annually. Families also have the opportunity to volunteer with the Tofino Recreation Commission, to help raise more money for the Kids Access Fund. Additional applications will be assessed on a case by case basis by the programmer.
What is the Tofino Recreation Commission?
The Tofino Recreation Commission is an advisory board to Council, advocating for recreational opportunities for ALL community members. The Commission meets once a month, planning special events, exploring park and facility development and supporting Parks & Recreation staff.
