Effective Monday, May 29, 2023
May 2023 has been a significantly hotter, drier and busier month than usual. The District is requesting all visitors and residents to conserve water in an effort to delay further restrictions.
- Tofino’s Ahkmahksis Reservoir is significantly lower than expected for this time of year.
- On average in May, Tofino receives ~150mm of rain. This May Tofino has received only ~4.2mm of rain to date.
- Tofino's water consumption is up 50% from 2021 (up to May 21), and up 10% from May 2022.
District Staff are meeting with major water users weekly to encourage education and awareness, and Bylaw staff are educating users about water conservation regulations.
Tofino’s tap water is collected with gratitude from the rainforests protected by Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks in the Hahuulthii of the Tla-o-qui-aht Ha'wiih.
