Mayor's Report
Mayor Law began his report by calling on Alistair Reynolds to take to the lectern so that he could be awarded with the 2023 Volunteer Recognition Award. Mr. Reynolds was recognized for his hard work and dedication in working with regional youth over the last eight years in both the classroom and the basketball courts.
Next Mayor Law called on Aaron Rodgers, Director of Infrastructure and Public Works, and extended a sincere thank you for his 15 years of dedicated service as a District of Tofino Employee. The Mayor spoke to Mr. Rodgers' history of employment with the District, and acknowledged his contributions to the community and the organization.

Special Event Permit - Beach Day Skate Jam
Council authorized staff to issue a special event permit for use of the Tuff City Skate Park to the organizer of the 'Beach Day Skate Jam' event scheduled to be held on June 10, 2023.
Special Event Permit - Hang 21
Council authorized staff to issue a special event permit for use of the beach at Cox Bay and South Chesterman to the organizer of the 'Hang 21' event scheduled to be held September 23, 2023.
Special Event Permit - Live to Surf Demo Day
Council authorized staff to issue a special event permit for use of the beach at Cox Bay or North Chesterman to the organizer of the 'Live to Surf Demo Day' event scheduled to be held June 4, 2023.
Development Variance Permit - 148 Daphne Place - Lot Coverage
Council authorized staff to issue a Development Variance Permit for the property at 148 Daphne Place that will vary the zoning provision to increase the maximum lot coverage to 29.6%. The applicant seeks to vary the maximum allowable coverage on their lot to accommodate a covered deck that results in an overage of 4.6%.
2023-2027 Financial Plan Bylaw and 2023 Annual Tax Rates Bylaw
'District of Tofino 2023-2027 Financial Plan Bylaw No. 1329, 2023' and 'District of Tofino 2023 Annual Tax Rates Bylaw No. 1330, 2023' were both introduced and read a first, second and third time.

Mayor Law met with the Honorable Nathan Cullen, Minister of Municipal Affairs regarding the situation with the Wastewater Treatment Plant funding. He communicated the support from the Ministry on the community’s behalf.

View full highlightsMayor Law and Councillor McMaster attended a follow-up meeting hosted by Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations with resort representatives and the West Coast Hospitality Association to discuss the Memorandum of Understanding and Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT). These discussions were very well received. Discussions were excellent and he looks forward to working closely together.

There were over 44 mayors and chairs present for the discussions about local government efforts towards reconciliation across the island.

He also presented Trish Dixon with a Certificate of Recognition for 10 years with the District of Tofino.
