Call for Applications: Council Advisory Committees

Advisory committees in Tofino offer residents a voice in shaping local policies, guiding Council on critical topics from design and accessibility to recreation and public art. These committees allow for focused discussions beyond formal Council meetings, providing essential insight from the community.
The District is currently recruiting for the committees listed below, with terms starting January 2025.
Applications are due by Friday, November 29, 2024.
The District of Tofino Council reviews applications, and appointments are made in December.

Accessibility Committee
The purpose of the Committee is to provide advice and make recommendations to Council on matters related to accessibility within the municipal boundaries of the District of Tofino.
Available Seats: Two (2) seats for persons with disabilities or individuals who support or represent persons with disabilities.
Term: 2 years (2025–2026)

Design Review Panel
The role of the Design Review Panel is to advise Council on the design merits of Development Permit Applications submitted under Section 5.1 (Tourism Focus Development Permit Area) and Section 5.2 (Downtown Commercial Core and Gateway Development Permit Area) of the Official Community Plan.
Available Seats: Two (2) seats for members of the public with applicable expertise, preferably residents of Tofino.
Term: 3 years (2025–2027)

Public Art Advisory Committee
The role of the Public Art Advisory Committee is to provide advice and make recommendations to Council on matters related to Public Art.
Available Seats: One (1) seat for a member of the public who is a visual artist.
Term: 2 years (2025–2026)

Events, Arts, Culture, Heritage (EACH) Advisory Committee
The Events, Arts, Culture, and Heritage (EACH) Committee collaborates with the various communities to develop policies that foster a more vibrant, engaged, and accessible EACH sector.
Available Seats: One (1) seat for a community at-large representative. Two (2) seats for representatives from the arts, culture, heritage, or events sector.
Term: 2 years (2025–2026)

Board of Variance
The role of the Board of Variance is to consider applications for variances to the District's Zoning Bylaw where compliance with applicable bylaws or legislation would cause hardship.
Available Seats: Two (2) seats for members of the public.
