District of Tofino Reaches Agreement with CUPE 118 Following Mediation

TOFINO, B.C. – The following statement was issued by the District of Tofino on the successful conclusion of mediation with CUPE 118:

The District of Tofino (the “District”) and CUPE 118 participated in mediation sessions over the past two days. The sessions were facilitated by a mediator who was appointed by the Labour Relations Board of British Columbia.

“We are pleased to share that we have reached a memorandum of agreement with CUPE 118 that was unanimously supported by the representatives at the table for the employer and the union,” says Nyla Attiana, Chief Administrative Officer for the District of Tofino. “The success of this process speaks to the strong relationships we have with our staff and we look forward to continuing to work together for many years to come.”

The agreement requires ratification by the union’s members and the employer, both of which are scheduled to occur in July.

The District remains focused on supporting the health and safety of residents and staff, including continuing to provide safe and reliable services to the residents of Tofino and visitors.

“We would like to thank everyone who was involved in successfully concluding negotiations to reach this agreement,” says Attiana.
