Report a Bylaw Violation
Bylaw Complaints and Community Responsibilities
The District of Tofino enforces most bylaws on a complaint-driven basis, typically when a member of the public reports a concern.
A complaint is a formal request for staff to review an alleged infraction. Staff assess each file based on available information, priority, and operational capacity. Not all complaints proceed to investigation or enforcement.
Bylaw Enforcement seeks voluntary compliance through education and communication. When required, the District will issue tickets or pursue legal remedies.
Primary goals:
- Public safety
- Maintaining community standards that support quality of life in Tofino
- Managing behavioural and nuisance issues to promote a harmonious living environment
