The District of Tofino is pleased to announce that 2025 Business Licence Renewals are now being accepted. This year, the District has partnered with PSD Citywide to introduce a new online platform for business licence applications, renewals, and payments.

Online Renewals Now Available

The new PSD Citywide system is now live. Business owners can create an account, connect to an existing business licence, and submit renewal requests online. Detailed step-by-step instructions for using the system can be found here.

To accommodate the transition to the new system, all 2024 Business Licences have been extended and will remain valid until February 28, 2025.

The District aims to process renewal requests in 3-5 business days.

In-Person Renewal Option

For those who prefer to renew in person, the Business Licence Renewal Form is available for download here. Printed copies are also available at the District of Tofino Municipal Hall.

In-person renewals can be submitted at the Municipal Hall during the following hours: Monday to Friday: 9 AM - 12 PM & 1 - 4 PM.

Short-Term Rentals & Bill 35

The District of Tofino reviews all business licence applications and renewals to confirm compliance with District bylaws. A District of Tofino Business Licence serves as a certificate of compliance with these bylaws based on the information provided at the time of the application.

Enforcement of Bill 35, including the Principal Residence Requirement, will be conducted by the Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs’ Short-Term Rental Branch Compliance and Enforcement Unit. If a host is under investigation by this unit, they will have an opportunity to provide information to demonstrate compliance.

The Province has not yet opened the Short-Term Rental Registry to hosts. When it becomes available, the information required to prove compliance with or exemption from the Principal Residence Requirement will be announced. This update is expected in early 2025.
