Beach Responsibly This Summer and Canada Day

Posted: Jun 26, 2025   |   By: Communications

As the first full weekend of summer break approaches and with Canada Day just around the corner, the District of Tofino reminds residents and visitors to celebrate safely and responsibly on District beaches.

Fireworks Are Prohibited
Due to the Coastal Fire Centre’s current Category 2 and 3 fire bans, all fireworks are strictly prohibited until further notice. This includes personal, public, and professional displays. Thank you for doing your part to reduce the risk of wildfires.

Beach Fire Reminders
Beach fires are permitted under specific conditions and must follow District regulations. Beach fires are only allowed at Chesterman Beach and tinwis (Mackenzie Beach), between 8 AM and 10 PM.

If you plan to have a fire, please keep the following in mind:

  • Fires must be in elevated appliances with good airflow or propane fireplaces
  • Use seasoned firewood only — burning driftwood or other materials is prohibited
  • Maximum size is 0.6 metres high by 0.6 metres in diameter
  • Fires must be at least 3 metres from any vegetation
  • Keep 8 litres of water on hand to fully extinguish the fire
  • Do not bury ashes — make sure they are cool to the touch before leaving
  • Fires must be supervised at all times by someone 16 years or older

Stay Informed
Fire bans and restrictions may change throughout the summer based on weather and wildfire conditions. For the latest updates, visit the District’s fire information page.
