Category 1 Campfire Prohibition: Effective Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 12 PM

The Coastal Fire Centre has announced that Category 1 Campfires will be prohibited as of 12 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2025. This is in addition to the existing bans on Category 2 and Category 3 open fires.

This prohibition includes all campfires, as well as the following activities and devices:

  • Sky lanterns
  • Wood-fired hot tubs, pizza ovens, and other wood-fired devices (unless vented through a building flue)
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Fireworks
  • Burn barrels or burn cages
  • Air curtain burners
  • Carbonizers
  • Controlled air incinerators

What is Allowed

During this time, CSA or ULC-certified outdoor stoves with a flame height of less than 15 centimetres are still permitted. These include:

  • Propane campfires
  • Camp stoves using gas or briquettes
  • Gas or briquette barbecues
  • Pizza ovens fueled with gas or briquettes
