2026 General Municipal Election – Candidate Information Session
If you are considering running for Mayor or Council in the 2026 municipal election, you are invited to attend the upcoming Candidate Information Session on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 5–7 PM at the Tofino Community Hall.
The session will provide prospective candidates with practical information about serving in local government and help them better understand the responsibilities and commitments that come with elected office.
Topics will include:
- The role of Mayor and Council
- How Council makes decisions
- The relationship between Council and District staff
- The difference between governance and municipal operations
- The time commitment, workload and public expectations associated with elected office
- Municipal finance and long-term planning
- Ethical responsibilities, conflicts of interest and confidentiality
- Candidate eligibility, nominations and key election requirements
Representatives from the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District will also attend to share information about the elections for the School District 70 Trustee and the Electoral Area “C” – Long Beach Director.
The session will include time for questions and discussion, allowing prospective candidates to consider what they may need to feel informed and prepared before deciding to run.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to attend and learn more about what it means to serve their community through elected office.
