The District of Tofino is pleased to announce the completion of the Village Green Sports Court Mural Project. The sports courts are now fully open, and the community is invited to visit the Village Green and experience the new murals created by One Day Creates.

The project builds on upgrades completed at the Village Green sports courts in 2023/2024. During that work, the District identified the large concrete walls surrounding the courts as an opportunity to add permanent public art to the space.

In May 2025, the District launched a two-stage public art competition and selected three artists to develop mural concepts. The community was invited to review the concepts and provide feedback from November 2025 to January 2026. The Public Art Advisory Committee considered the feedback as part of the final selection process and recommended One Day Creates for the project, followed by Council formally awarding the project in March 2026.

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, members of Council, the Public Art Advisory Committee and District staff joined the artists for a small ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project and to officially unveil the finished murals.

The District allocated $25,000 to the project, funded by the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) as part of the Arts and Culture Infrastructure component of Tofino’s Resort Development Strategy.

The District thanks court users and the community for their patience during installation and resulting temporary closures.

The courts are open, and the community is encouraged to stop by the Village Green, enjoy a game, and take a closer look at Tofino’s newest piece of public art.
