The District of Tofino held its Inaugural Meeting of Council on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Clayoquot Sound Theatre.

The ceremony opened with the Tofino Choir singing O Canada, followed by the Oaths of Office for Mayor Tom Stere and Councillors Anderson, Doré, Sawyer, Sloman, Thomas and Walker-Shaw.

Mayor Stere then delivered his inaugural address, followed by a virtual poetry reading (watch) from Tofino Poet Laureate Kaela Aryn to mark the occasion.

As its first official business, Council made the following appointments:

• Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Board of Directors: Mayor Stere as Director and Councillor Thomas as Alternate Director.
• District of Tofino Audit Committee: Councillors Thomas, Doré and Walker-Shaw.

After the meeting, a public reception gave residents a chance to meet and connect with the newly sworn-in Council.
