Emergency Support Services
Support when you need it the most
Emergency Support Services (ESS) is a community-based emergency response initiative designed to safeguard the physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being of individuals impacted by an emergency or disaster. Should residents require evacuation from their homes during an emergency, the Tofino ESS team can be mobilized by emergency responders to provide essential services to evacuees.
Key support categories include:
- Clothing
- Family Reunification
- Food
- Lodging
Local ESS teams, alongside the provincial ESS program, may also offer specialized services:
- Child Activity Services
- Cultural Services
- Pet Services
- Social-emotional support
- Transportation
- Volunteer Services
Evacuee Online Registration
The Evacuee Registration and Assistance (ERA) tool is a digital platform created to streamline and expedite service delivery for evacuees. If you are evacuated from your home and require ESS supports, you can pre-register online before reaching the reception centre. Online registration minimizes wait times and offers guidance on subsequent steps for evacuees.
Alternatively, evacuees can register in person at any open reception centre.
Reception Centre
A Reception Centre, strategically positioned within a community, provides a safe gathering space for evacuees. Here, individuals can register for support services, access critical information about the emergency, and receive assistance. Operated by trained ESS volunteers, the Reception Centre ensures a safe and centralized hub for evacuees from affected areas to gather and begin the recovery process.
Currently, the following location is Tofino’s designated Reception Centre:
Tofino Community Hall: 351 Arnet Road, Tofino, BC
