Volunteers Needed: Tsunami Evacuation Drill

Posted: Mar 28, 2025   |   By: Communications

In advance of Tsunami Preparedness Week (April 13–19, 2025), the District of Tofino is looking for 50 community volunteers to participate in this year’s High Ground Hike, which will feature a tsunami evacuation drill.

Held in collaboration with the University of Ottawa and the National Research Council Canada, the drill will help researchers and emergency personnel understand how people move during an evacuation. Volunteers will carry GPS tracking devices, and the data collected will support the development of stronger, more effective emergency plans for coastal communities like Tofino.

Event Details:

Date: Friday, April 11, 2025
Time: Arrive by 9 AM | Drill begins at 10 AM
Duration: Approximately 2–2.5 hours
Location: Tofino Community Hall
