Utility Billing Update – Canada Post Strike & Payment Options
Posted: Oct 24, 2025 | By: Communications
Due to ongoing rotating strikes by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), Canada Post delivery services are experiencing delays across the country. This may affect the timely arrival of your utility bill.
To support residents during this disruption, the District of Tofino is implementing the following measures:
Mailing & Deadlines
- Utility bills were mailed via Canada Post on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
- The payment deadline has been set to November 28, 2025.
- Penalties will not be reversed for payments received after this date.
- Unpaid balances as of January 1, 2026, will be transferred to property taxes in arrears and begin accruing interest.
Recommended Payment Methods
To avoid delays caused by postal disruptions, the District strongly encourages using alternative payment options:
- In-person payments at Municipal Office at 121 Third Street (Office Hours)
- Online banking through your financial institution
- Online credit card payments through the District's online payment portal
