Category 2 & 3 Fire Ban

The Province has announced a Category 2 & 3 Fire Ban, effective 12PM May 30, 2025.
Please be advised that the Coastal Fire Centre will prohibit Category 2 (backyard) and Category 3 (industrial) open fires effective 12 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Category 1 Campfires (and beach fires) are still permitted. Fires must be contained to an elevated, clean-burning or reduced-smoke fire appliance. Fires made directly on the beach are not permitted. Please follow the District's beach fire regulations here: tofino.ca/beaches
Category 2 (backyard) open fires are banned:
• Material in one pile not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
• Material concurrently in 2 piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
• Stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectares
Category 3 (industrial) open fires are banned:
• Material concurrently in 3 or more piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
• Material in one or more piles, each exceeding 2 metres in height or 3 metres in width
• One or more windrows, none of which exceed 200 metres in length or 15 metres in width
• Stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares
In addition to these prohibitions, the Coastal Fire Centre will also be restricting the following activities:
• Fireworks
• Sky Lanterns
• Binary Exploding Targets
• Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description
• Air Curtain Burners
