tinwis Fireworks
Ring in the New Year with a fireworks display on tinwis (formerly Mackenzie Beach) at 9:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring a headlamp for visibility, and leave dogs at home for their safety and comfort.
Important Holiday Fireworks Reminder
The District reminds residents and visitors that during the holiday break, discharging fireworks is permitted only on December 31 and January 1, between 5 PM and midnight. Please be respectful and avoid setting off fireworks on non-permitted days.
Beach Fire Guidelines
Those planning to enjoy a beach fire over the holidays are asked to follow these regulations to help keep beaches safe and beautiful:
- Locations: Fires are permitted only on Chesterman Beach and tinwis (formerly Mackenzie Beach), from 8 AM to 10 PM.
- Appliances: Use seasoned firewood in an elevated appliance with good airflow, or propane fireplaces. Burning driftwood or other materials is prohibited.
- Size: Fires must not exceed 0.6 metres high and 0.6 metres in diameter, and must be at least 3 metres away from vegetation.
- Safety: Keep 8 litres of water on hand to fully extinguish the fire. Do not bury ashes in the sand. Ashes must be cool to the touch, and all fires must remain supervised by someone 16 years or older.
As always, visitors are reminded to pack out what they pack in and help care for Tofino’s beaches throughout the holiday season.
