Now In Effect: Snow & Ice Control Policy

This fall, the District of Tofino adopted a Snow and Ice Control Policy that guides snow plowing and ice control on District roads, sidewalks, and the Multi-Use Path (MUP) during winter weather events.
The policy was developed following public consultation in the summer and Reports to Council in the fall and is now in effect for the winter season.
The policy outlines:
- How the District prioritizes snow and ice response across roads, sidewalks, municipal parking lots, and the MUP
- The shared responsibility between the District and property owners for keeping sidewalks safe
- What areas are not maintained in winter, such as gravel roads, trails, and beach accesses
Snow and ice control focuses first on key routes that support emergency access and essential services, with other areas addressed as conditions and resources allow.
