The District of Tofino will replace the aging wooden stairs connecting the Tonquin Trail to Tonquin Beach near the Tofino Community Hall and Peterson Drive access from August 4–14, 2026.

To help reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires, the Coastal Fire Centre will prohibit Category 1 campfires effective Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 12 PM. This prohibition is in addition to the Category 2 and 3 fire prohibitions that have been in place since May 7, 2026.
