Residents are invited to check their mailboxes for their 2026 Property Tax Notices, which were mailed last week.
A reminder that 2026 Property Taxes are due by end of day Thursday, July 2, 2026. A 10% penalty will be applied to unpaid property taxes after this date.
Understanding Your Property Taxes
Property taxes help fund essential municipal services and infrastructure that support the community year-round.
At the May 12, 2026, Regular Council meeting, Council adopted a balanced budget with a municipal tax rate increase of 7%.
Municipal taxation represents approximately 53% of the total Property Tax Bill. The remaining portions include provincial and regional levies collected on behalf of organizations such as the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, Regional Hospital District, BC Assessment Authority, Regional Library, Municipal Finance Authority and Police.
How Property Taxes Are Calculated
In British Columbia, property taxes are based on the assessed value of a property, as determined annually by BC Assessment, and the tax rates adopted by local governments and other taxing authorities.
