Tsunami Siren Audibility Assessment: February 2, 2024

On Friday, February 2, 2024, the District of Tofino will be conducting a live audibility assessment of the Tsunami Alerting System (TAS) at:
• Mackenzie Beach
• North Chesterman
• South Chesterman
• Cox Bay
Testing will occur from 11 AM to 3 PM.
During the allotted time frame, testing will involve multiple activations of the emergency siren.
The siren will be notably different than the usual monthly testing sound.
Why are these longer tests being conducted?
The purpose of this evaluation is to ensure that all Tofino neighbourhoods can hear the siren in case of an emergency. Additionally, this testing will help to identify potential locations for future sirens to address any gaps in sound coverage.

If an actual emergency occurs during this testing window, the District will send out further alerts to residents via VoyentAlert!
