Residents and visitors are invited to participate in the Tofino Human Mobility Data Study led by Western University.

The study will help researchers understand how people move around Tofino during everyday activities and how they may travel from beach areas to public assembly points or nearby high ground during a tsunami evacuation.

This information can help identify common travel routes, potential barriers and opportunities to make future evacuation planning safer, more efficient and better suited to Tofino’s unique geography.

Participants will:

• Complete a short questionnaire
• Download the OwnTracks app and allow the app to track movements
• Complete a hypothetical tsunami evacuation exercise
• Complete an exit survey

Every participant will contribute valuable information to support enhanced emergency preparedness for residents, visitors, and the wider community.

Participation is open until September 2026.
