Effective immediately, the District of Tofino has lifted Water Conservation Stage 1, which was introduced on May 12, 2026, to encourage water conservation and reduce the risk of additional water restrictions during the summer months.

The decision to lift Stage 1 is based on current water supply data and forecasted conditions, which indicate a secure and stable water supply for residents, businesses and visitors.

Tofino's water supply depends on rainfall, making responsible water use especially important during dry summer weather and high seasonal demand.

Thanks to the conservation efforts of residents, businesses and visitors, along with periods of wet weather throughout the summer, Tofino maintained sufficient water levels through the busiest and driest part of the year and avoided the need for additional water conservation stages.

The District thanks everyone for using water responsibly throughout the summer.

For Businesses

Businesses may now remove any Water Conservation Stage 1 materials that were required to be posted when conservation stages came into effect.

The District recommends storing these materials for reuse in future years.

Planning for Long-Term Water Security

Seasonal water conservation measures are part of the District's broader work to protect Tofino's water supply. The District is also continuing efforts to strengthen the community's long-term water security.

This includes improving the resilience of existing infrastructure and identifying options to provide additional water storage and supply as the community grows and climate conditions change.
