Mayor's Report

Mayor Law remarked on the upcoming Annual Spring Eggstravaganza event and encouraged community participation and emergency preparedness during Tsunami Preparedness Week.

Mayor Law noted the importance of not disturbing shorebirds relating to Parks Canada's seasonal dog ban on Combers Beach.

Presentation and Reports

Invited Presentation from Tourism Tofino

Nancy Cameron, Executive Director, presented the 2021 Annual Performance Report for Tourism Tofino. The presentation covered performance reporting, impacts of COVID-19, strategic planning and ongoing work and marketing messaging alignment with community expectations.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1315, 2022 - 825 Campbell Street

Council gave a first and second reading of the zoning amendment bylaw related to the addition of the Campbell Street Neighbourhood Comprehensive Development Zone (CSN). Staff were authorized to schedule a Public Hearing.

Temporary-Use Permit - 1141 Pacific Rim Highway

Council approved a renewal of the temporary-use permit for 1141 Pacific Rim Highway for another three years to permit the operation of a 32-site residential campground.

Development Variance Permit - 270 Campbell Street

Council approved a development variance permit that reduced the required side yard setback for the construction of a deck.

Development Variance Permit - 1232 Lynn Road

Council denied a development variance permit reducing the required yard setbacks for the construction of a caretaker cottage.

Development Permit - 200 Campbell Street

Council approved the issue of Development Permit No.09-22 for Templar Plan and directed staff to draft a development agreement for further Council consideration.

Mayor Law and Councillor McMaster attended a follow-up meeting hosted by Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations with resort representatives and the West Coast Hospitality Association to discuss the Memorandum of Understanding and Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT). These discussions were very well received. Discussions were excellent and he looks forward to working closely together.
