Mayor's Report
Mayor Law met with the Honorable Nathan Cullen, Minister of Municipal Affairs regarding the situation with the Wastewater Treatment Plant funding. He communicated the support from the Ministry on the community's behalf.
Mayor Law also spoke in thanks to the Honorable Katrina Chen, Ministry of Education and Child Care regarding the announcement for funding for 70-100 childcare spaces in Tofino via School District 70 (SD70) property.
Mayor Law concluded with his intention to send a letter of welcome to SD70's new superintendent, Tim Davie.
Presentation and Reports
Ian Scott gave a brief introduction to the THC's first audit. Council then heard from Cory Vanderhorst, MNP LLP, who gave an overview of the audit and provided financial highlights.
Council approved the appointment of Heather Hendry as the Tofino Poet Laureate and recognized Christine Lowther for her tenure as the Tofino Poet Laureate for 2020-2022.
Council gave first and second reading to the Business Licence Regulation Bylaw. This bylaw will replace the current "Business Licence Regulation Bylaw No. 858, 2000," which has not received any significant changes in two decades.
Council granted staff permission to proceed with a review of the rezoning application for 565 Campbell St. This proposed rezoning would include four units of affordable housing. Staff will schedule an open house following first reading.
Council gave first reading to the zoning amendment application. Staff presented a report with considerations for wildlife and ecological considerations, emergency access and affordability.
