Mayor's Report
Mayor Law spoke to the Omicron variant and COVID-19 protocols, including additional precautions in Municipal Hall and other District buildings. He expressed his thankfulness for the community and for vaccines, reiterating how fortunate we are to have these advances and how important it is for government to continue to take care of their communities.
Mayor Law also gave an update regarding the ongoing MRDT discussions and application. Discussions are ongoing and looking promising with a new application to come in the next few weeks.
Mayor Law concluded with an update regarding an Island Health Sobering and Assessment facility for Tofino. This project comes with considerable funding and the District is currently looking for a location to house this facility. Mayor Law looks forward to developments to come.

Addition of Signing Authority
Council authorized staff to authorize Alexandra Porritt, Manager of Financial Services (Interim), as a signing authority for the District of Tofino.
Presentation and Reports
Zoning Bylaw Amendment No. 1287 - Shipping Containers
Council heard an amended second reading of Bylaw Amendment No. 1287, 2020. These amendments pertained to height restrictions, exterior enclosure, and ventilation requirements. Staff also requested that the Public Hearing for the Shipping Containers bylaw be waived, as the proposed amendment is consistent with the Official Community Plan (OCP), public consultation was undertaken following the first reading of the bylaw, and an ad in The Westerly will still be required. Council carried the motion, with opposition from Councillor Thicke.
