Mayor's Report
Mayor Law spoke to his experience participating in the raising of the totem pole Hinaaqsuuqʷa on July 1, 2022 at the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation ancient village site of Opitsaht on Meares Island. The totem pole was carved by master carver Joe Martin along with members of his family and other local artists.
The Mayor also remarked that Tofino has been named one of the World's 50 Greatest Places in 2022 by TIME Magazine, and recognized the community members, businesses, and staff for their part in making Tofino a world renowned destination. Lastly, the Mayor provided an update on the Tofino Free Shuttle, which is a free summer service between Tofino's Village core and the Tofino Visitor Centre at Cox Bay. The service is funded primarily by Tofino's participation in the Resort Municipality (RMI) program with additional support from pay parking revenue and Tourism Tofino. The Mayor commended staff for their contributions to infrastructure and community services, and shared his positive conversations with visitors who have commented on their enjoyment of the town. Wastewater Treatment Plant Update
The new Manager of Major Capital Projects presented Council with an update on the wastewater treatment plant, conveyance upgrade, and outfall replacement project. The update included an overview of project progress, staffing details, design and construction cost savings, and upcoming project milestones.
Fees and Charges Amendment Bylaw No. 1271.07, 2022
Council adopted a bylaw to amend the Fees and Charges Bylaw that sets a fee for water modelling services to ensure that costs for reviewing new development proposals are recovered. The bylaw also amends a discrepancy in the zoning amendment application fees section and provides clarity regarding land use development application fees.

These discussions were very well received. Discussions were excellent and he looks forward to working closely together.
