The District of Tofino will begin Phase 1 of the Main Street Watermain Improvements Project on Wednesday, April 27, 2026. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2026.

This project will upgrade aging underground water infrastructure on Main Street between Fourth Street and Third Street as part of a three-phase plan to renew the watermain from Fourth Street to First Street over the coming years.

This work supports Tofino’s long-term water security goals by helping to reduce water loss, improve system performance, increase fire flow capacity, and renew aging infrastructure before future issues arise.

What to Expect

• Construction hours are expected to be Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM
• One-way traffic will be in place during construction hours
• Two-way traffic will resume outside construction hours
• Pedestrian access will remain open
• Parking in the work area will be impacted
• Businesses will remain open during construction
• Planned water shutoffs will be communicated directly to impacted residents and businesses when details become available
