May 2023 has been a significantly hotter and drier month than usual. On average, Tofino receives ~150mm of rain in May, this year Tofino has received only ~4.2mm of rain to date. Tofino’s water consumption is up as well, an increase of 10% from May 2022 (up to May 21), and up 50% from 2021.
Water service will be shut off to properties on Neill Street between Third Street and First Street on Friday, May 26th between the hours of 8:30AM to 12PM Noon.
Effective at noon Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday, May 18, 2023, most open burning activities will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. This prohibition is being enacted to help reduce wildfire risk and protect public safety.
