Now Open: Tonquin Trail Connector
Posted: Dec 21, 2023 | By: Communications
The District of Tofino is pleased to inform the public that the Tonquin Trail Connector has officially reopened for public use after a temporary closure that began in mid-April due to construction activities related to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. There are currently no future closure plans for the connector trail.
The trail's appearance has undergone significant changes as a result of the construction. The original trail, measuring approximately 2 meters in width, has now been expanded, doubling in width to 4 meters in certain sections. This increased width enhances accessibility for both pedestrians and cyclists, offering more space for comfortable use. Additionally, the added width addresses public safety concerns by improving visibility around corners.
The widened trail also serves a practical purpose by providing a more accessible service corridor. This facilitates the District's ease of access for trail maintenance and management of infrastructure associated with the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
In addition to these improvements, the expanded trail now functions as an alternative route during potential emergencies, contributing to the overall safety of the community.
Parking and trail access remain available at the pre-existing locations near the Community Hall and Industrial Way.
The District extends its gratitude to the public for their ongoing patience throughout the closure period. We look forward to the community enjoying the revitalized trail and its new features soon.
