West Coast Transit System Service Expansion
Posted: Dec 19, 2025 | By: Communications
BC Transit and the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District are expanding the West Coast Transit service, with changes taking effect on January 4, 2026. This expansion aims to improve connectivity and travel options for residents, workers, and visitors across the region.
As part of the expansion, riders will benefit from more frequent midday trips between hitaću, Ucluelet, and Tofino. Late-night service will also return, providing new evening travel options with buses departing Ucluelet at 9:20 PM and Tofino at 10:25 PM.
The West Coast Transit service plays an important role in regional mobility by connecting Tofino, Ucluelet, Long Beach, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ community of hitaću, and the Tla-o-qui-aht communities of Esowista and Ty-histanis. These connections support access to employment, education, services, and recreational opportunities throughout the West Coast.
Riders can pay their fare using cash, the Umo Mobility app, or a reloadable Umo card. Reloadable Umo cards are available for purchase at the District of Tofino Municipal Office.
For schedules, trip planning, and to sign up for customer alerts, the public is encouraged to visit BC Transit.
