Notice of Nomination

Nominations for the offices of:

• 1 (one) Mayor
• 6 (six) Councillors

will be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated person as follows, from 9:00 AM on September 1, 2026, to 4:00 PM on September 11, 2026:

Nomination Information and Forms

Beginning August 12, 2026, interested persons can obtain information on the requirements and procedures for making nominations, including nomination forms, at the District of Tofino Municipal Office, 121 Third Street, by appointment during regular office hours:

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Qualifications for Office

A person is qualified to be nominated, elected and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:

• Canadian citizen;
• 18 years of age or older on general voting day, October 17, 2026;
• resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
• not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia, being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or otherwise disqualified by law.

Campaign Period Expense Limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, the following expense limits for candidates apply during the campaign period for the 2026 General Local Election:

• Mayor: $12,323.78
• Councillor: $6,161.89

Third-Party Advertising Limits

In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, the following third-party advertising limit applies:

• Mayor and Councillor: $924.28
