District of Tofino Announces New CAO
After a comprehensive recruitment process conducted by Waterhouse Executive Search, Tofino Council has appointed Nyla Attiana as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Attiana will be stepping into the position following the retirement of current CAO, Bob Macpherson, who has been in the role for nine years.
Attiana has worked in local government for almost 12 years, joining the District of Tofino in 2010 as Director of Financial Services and Chief Financial Officer. During this time, she held the position of Interim CAO for six months and has provided coverage as Acting CAO on an annual basis. Prior to her time with the District she was the Financial Controller for Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. Attiana is an active volunteer inside and outside the community and currently serves on the Government Finance Officers Association of BC Board of Directors as Vice-President.

"On behalf of Council, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Nyla Attiana to the position of Chief Administrative Officer for the District of Tofino," said Mayor Law. "Nyla brings passion and commitment to the organization as well as to the community as a whole. We are confident in her incredible leadership skills and depth of knowledge of District matters, which combined will help ensure the successful implementation of a strategic vision that meets the Municipality's current and future needs.”
As CAO, Attiana will be responsible for managing the community's constantly changing and increasingly complex day-to-day affairs while acting as key advisor and liaison to Council. Attiana’s professional knowledge and experience, along with a solid understanding of Tofino, will ensure that the organization will continue to move forward on Council and community priorities. Nyla Attiana will commence her new role on May 22, 2022.
"I am passionate about the success of our community and excited to be accepting this new leadership role in Tofino, a place that I have called home for over 15 years,” said Attiana. “I look forward to serving the community, Council and staff in the role of Chief Administrative Officer for years to come."
